|Unit Help||Mercer Area District|
In the simplest of terms, scouting is about people helping other people: Cub Scouts, Boys Scouts and Venturers helping their community with service projects; Unit Leaders helping their youth develop and grow into good citizens; an Eagle Scout helping a younger scout how to tie a knot. Everywhere you look in scouting, you see the good deeds of everyone involved.
Yet, there is a part of scouting that many leaders are not aware of - that is the Commissioners Staff. We are a group of experienced district volunteers, who are willing to help the unit leaders succeed in delivering a quality program for their youth. Commissioners care about the health of a unit; they visit their units to see how they are doing and provide advice and counseling as needed.
As the Mercer Area District Commissioner, it is my job to make sure every unit leader knows who to go to for help and to get the help they need. The first person a unit leader should think of when they need help is their Unit Commissioner. Often times, a unit leader just needs someone they can talk to and confide in. If you unit is not meeting, has no leaders or is losing youth membership, we can help you!
The Commissioners Staff has grown and will continue to grow to serve all the Packs, Troops and Crews in the Mercer Area. We love scouting and many of us have held the positions of Committee Chairs, Cubmasters, Scoutmasters and Crew Advisors. Many of us know what it feels like to be a unit leader and to have the responsibilities the come with it. Please take advantage of our scouting experience, knowledge and the unique perspective we have as district volunteers.
Feel free to use the links below to find out more about what a Commissioner does in Scouting, which one is assigned to your unit and how they can help you with rechartering and earning the Quality Unit Award. There is also a link for if you are interested in becoming a Unit Commissioner.
Please help us help you.
Yours in Scouting,
Mercer Area District Commissioner
